Ahead of Red Monday, we look at how red has predominantly been the colour of success in English football since 1889... Liverpool and Manchester United go head-to-head on Monday Night Football, when red flags, scarves and replica jerseys will be on display in both the home and away sections. The pair have won 38 English titles between them - contributing to the perception that red shirts equal success in football. Indeed, a remarkable 44.7 per cent of title-winning clubs have worn red home shirts since 1889, according to a Sky Sports study. As well as Liverpool and United, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have also taken the crown while wearing predominantly red home shirts, while Sunderland have been the top club on six occasions in their red and white stripes. Burnley and Aston Villas past successes mean claret has been the colour of the champions (five per cent), as has Wolves gold (three per cent) and Newcastle Uniteds black (two per cent). Its not a home colour of choice for any leading team these days but Everton won the 1890/91 First Division with an all-salmon shirt, before switching to their famous blue! So does a red kit have an impact on the teams wearing them - and the opponents they face? Former Liverpool boss Bill Shankly certainly thought so.He said red for danger, red for power, ahead of Liverpool changing their traditionally white shorts to red in 1964 - a quote referenced on the Reds current third kit.Former Kop striker Ian St John recalled in his autobiography: Shankly thought the colour scheme would carry psychological impact. He came into the dressing room one day and threw a pair of red shorts to Ronnie Yeats. Get into those shorts and lets see how you look, he said. Ronnie, you look awesome, terrifying. You look 7ft tall. For this study we counted home shirts only, as displayed on historicalkits.co.uk. Also See: Liverpool v Man Utd top 50 Your clubs bogeyman is... Nike Air Max 90 Nederland . He is the longest serving catcher in Goldeyes history, having already spent five seasons with the organization.KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Blue Jays recalled outfielder Anthony Gose and selected the contract of infielder Steve Tolleson from Triple-A Buffalo in an attempt to jumpstart their struggling offence before Thursday nights series finale in Kansas City. To clear roster space, Toronto optioned infielder Jonathan Diaz to Buffalo and designated outfielder Moises Sierra for assignment. "Just looking to beef up the offence a little bit, and add a little team speed, something we dont have a lot of," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. The 23-year-old Gose was in the starting lineup Thursday night, batting ninth and playing left field in place of Melky Cabrera, who left Wednesday nights game when he was hit by a pitch. Cabrera walked through the clubhouse with his bruised left shin tightly wrapped but without a noticeable limp, and Gibbons said its possible he could pinch hit against the Royals. Gibbons also said its possible he could play Friday night when Toronto opens a series in Pittsburghh.dddddddddddd "Hes doing better," Gibbons said. "He got hit pretty good, but theres no crack (in the bone) or anything like that. He just got hit square." Gose has spent parts of three seasons with the Blue Jays, hitting .238 with three homers and 23 RBIs in 109 games. Hes known for his speed but also his strikeout rate, and Gibbons said Gose must get that under control if hes going to stick as the clubs fourth outfielder. "When it comes down to the big leagues, its about production," Gibbons said. "Thats why its so hard to make the big leagues for any length of time. Guys go up and down." Tolleson, who was hitting .236 in 19 games for Buffalo, provides some versatility with the Blue Jays heading into interleague play. He has played in both the infield and outfield, though Gibbons said its likely he will platoon with Chris Getz at second base. "Maybe get a little more offence out of that spot," Gibbons said. "Hope he does something." ' ' '
