BUFFALO, N.Y. -- First, Patrick Kane gave his family and friends something to cheer about by scoring a highlight-reel goal in a rare trip home to Buffalo on Sunday night. Then, Kane stuck around an hour after the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 victory over the Sabres, by posing for pictures and signing autographs in the stands. As homecomings go, Kanes was nearly complete except that his beloved grandfather Donald Kane was not around to see it after passing away last month. "No matter what, youre going to miss him," Kane said, following only his fourth NHL game at Buffalo. "But life goes on, and I think more importantly, I have a lot of family here at the game that came and supported me." Coach Joel Quenneville saw a jump during a performance in which Kane snapped a five-game goal drought that began after his grandfathers death. "I thought Kane was special," Quenneville said. "He was a threat and had the puck on his stick tonight: very dangerous and nice to see him play well here at home." Kane opened the scoring 3:12 in, by capping a breath-taking rush. Bursting past defenceman Christian Ehrhoff, Kane snapped a shot through the legs of defenceman Chad Ruhwedel that beat goalie Jhonas Enroth over the left shoulder. Kane nearly made it 2-1 with 8 minutes left in the second period, when he got in alone behind the Sabres defence only to have his backhander stopped by Enroth. He also scored into an empty net, but a second after the final horn sounded. Captain Jonathan Toews secured the win by scoring the go-ahead goal 1:34 into the third period. Corey Crawford stopped 20 shots, and the Blackhawks (38-13-14) snapped a two-game road skid. Drew Stafford scored for the league-worst Sabres (19-37-8), who had a three-game home winning streak snapped. Stafford capped a nifty three-way passing play to tie the game midway through the first period. Tyler Ennis started it by finding trailing forward Cory Conacher driving up the left wing. Conacher drew Crawford from out of the net and slipped a pass into the crease where Stafford jammed it in after his first chance was blocked by Brent Seabrook. The assist for Ennis made up for a goal he had disallowed a few minutes earlier, when he was called for hooking Crawford. "I didnt think it was a penalty, and frustrated that I had the goal taken away," Ennis said. "But I dont think that was the turning point." The difference was the Sabres ongoing difficulties on offence, which has managed a league-low 122 goals. Buffalos power play went 0-for-5 on Sunday, and is 0-for-10 over its past four games. "What do we take out of that one?" Ennis said. "One: Jhonys playing great. Two: Weve got to stay out of the box. And, three: Our power plays got to be better." Enroth stopped 29 shots and had little chance on either of the two goals he gave up. With the game tied at 1 and the Sabres mounting a threat in Chicagos end to open the third period, Toews answered by capping a 3-on-2 rush the other way. Andrew Shaw crossed Buffalos blue line and found Brandon Saad breaking up the right wing. Saad drew Enroth his way before steering a pass through the crease to Toews, who then snapped it in the open side. It was Toews 25th goal of the season and sixth in four games. Toews has shown little sign of a post-Olympic hangover after he helped Canada win a gold medal at Sochi. "I think hes returned from the Olympics in great shape, very confident," Quenneville said. "He just seems to have the knack, has good pace with it, has the puck a lot as well. And when hes around the net, hes getting rewarded." The Blackhawks extended their win streak to five games against the Sabres. And with 90 points, they jumped into third place in the Western Conference standings, a point ahead of idle San Jose. NOTES: Kane was the last Chicago player off the ice following pregame warmups and got a big cheer after flipping a puck into a large crowd of Blackhawks jersey-wearing fans behind the teams bench. ... Sabres C Conacher made his debut with Buffalo since being claimed Wednesday, a day after being waived by Ottawa. Conacher played college at Buffalos Canisius and is from nearby Burlington, Ontario. ... The Sabres suspended D Rostislav Klesla for failing to report to the teams AHL affiliate in Rochester. Acquired in a trade with Washington on Wednesday, Klesla told Canadian broadcaster TSN that he intended to not finish the NHL season, and instead planned to continue his career in Europe. Otis Sistrunk Raiders Jersey . In question is whether 26-year-old Matt Frattin will be on it. A a€?mediocrea€? training camp, as Carlyle put it earlier this week, has Frattin lingering nervously on the bubble at the end of the exhibition season, pushed out of a likely job by Brandon Kozun, the small, but feisty winger determined to make the NHL for the first time. Charles Woodson Raiders Jersey . The midfielder had an operation on Saturday, and is set to miss seven Premier League games, the third round of the FA Cup and the semifinals of the League Cup. https://www.raiderssportsgoods.com/Women...nverted-Jersey/. A knee to the thigh might have stung him the most, but his sixth straight double-double made up for the brief burst of pain. Antonio Brown Youth Jersey . With the Pirates in the thick of the race in the NL Central, the timing couldnt be better. Liriano struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings to win consecutive starts for the first time this season and Pittsburgh beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Tuesday night. Tim Brown Youth Jersey . The 33-year-old Spaniard, who held the lead since the second round, turned in a solid final round that featured six birdies and two bogeys to finish on 22-under 266. The victory is Garcias first this year with his last win coming at the Johor Open, an Asian Tour event in Malaysia last December.TORONTO – Drew Hutchison wants you to know that hes healthy. He will dispel any notion to the contrary when its used to try to explain his inconsistency. “I feel the exact same every time Ive taken the mound this year,” said Hutchison. “Its frustrating because I expect myself not to be inconsistent and thats what I get. Its frustrating.” Hutchisons injury history has been well chronicled. As a 21-year-old, Hutchison was an early season call-up in 2012, less than three years after he was drafted out of Lakeland (Florida) Senior High School. He impressed in 11 starts between April and June, but was lost for the season upon tearing the ulnar ligament in his pitching elbow. He underwent the famous Tommy John reconstruction surgery and returned, pitching in the minor leagues, late last season. This season, hes already surpassed his innings total of last year. The Blue Jays have already negotiated their rotation to afford Hutchison extra rest on one occasion and its likely other spots will be cherry-picked through the year. Hutchison has pitched much better on the road than at home. He has been better on extra rest, five days or more in between starts, than he has been when pitching on the regular four days of down time. He simplified his Sunday struggles, during which he allowed five earned runs in only three innings of work in the Jays 5-0 loss to St. Louis. Hutchison pitched on regular rest. “I made some mistakes and they got hit like they should,” said Hutchison. “I left a change-up up. I hung a slider. Those are pitches theyre going to do damage with. Regardless of anything else, if I throw a hanging slider on two days rest or eight days rest, its going to get drilled.” At home in five starts, Hutchison is 1-3 with an 8.72 ERA, seven home runs allowed and 21 strikeouts to 13 unintentional walks. On the road in eight starts, hes 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA, three home runs allowed and 46 strikeouts to 10 walks. Hutchisons two finest outings of the season occurred away from Rogers Centre. He tossed a three-hit shutout in Texas, outpitching Yu Darvish in a 2-0 win on May 16. Then, on June 3 in Detroit, Hutchison went pitch-for-pitch with Anibal Sanchez. He got a no-deecision for his seven scoreless innings, but the Jays got the win when the offence opened up on the Tigers bullpen.dddddddddddd. The start in Texas was on normal rest. The start in Detroit was on seven days of rest. Yet Hutchisons take on the appearances versus the Tigers is different than the layman observers. “I didnt think I was lights out that start, either, until about the fourth or the fifth,” said Hutchison. “I didnt think I had very good tempo and I didnt think I was locked in.” Hutchison is a command pitcher, at his best when hes working the corners with his fastball and mixing in his slider and his changeup to keep hitters off balance. The modus operandi isnt exclusive to Hutchison, of course, but because he doesnt throw a high-90s fastball, hes less prone to get away with mistakes. If its not about fatigue and it isnt about health, could it be about a 23-year-old still learning the ropes? “I mean, sure, thats fair to say,” said Hutchison. “For me, I dont really look at things that way. Im more take the ball and I expect to give us a good outing every time I go out there, regardless of my age or regardless of what level Im at or anything like that.” Hutchison wants to be reliable and admitted hes angry that hasnt always been the case. Theres frustration at the inconsistency. “Thats been the biggest difference between the good starts Ive had and the bad starts - my rhythm and my tempo has been good in my good starts and it hasnt been in my bad starts, so I think thats something Im more focused on than anything else,” said Hutchison. RASMUS UPDATE Colby Rasmus, on the disabled list since May 13 with an injured right hamstring, has made enough progress that his rehab schedule is becoming better defined. Rasmus continues to perform baseball activities at the Blue Jays facility in Dunedin, Florida and may get into an extended spring training game early this week. The Triple-A Buffalo Bisons are scheduled to open up a four-game series in Toledo, Ohio, against the Mudhens on Thursday. Rasmus will join the Bisons there. Its not yet clear how many games he will play before being activated off the disabled list and rejoining the Blue Jays. ' ' '
